Ms. Burton-Carpenter died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 14, 1959, in Mexico, Mo., the daughter of Doyle Burton Sr. and Madonna Gerdes Burton-Kunkler. She was a former resident of Tonganoxie.
Ms. Burton-Carpenter retired as direct service manager with Wyandotte Developmental Disabilities Services in Kansas City, Kan.
Survivors include a son, Shane Massing, Lansing; a brother, Doyle M. Burton Jr., Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Donna Burton, Olathe; and seven grandchildren.
