Janice was born in Atkins and was a lifelong resident of that community until her move to Texas in 2019. She was born to Joseph Bruce and Virginia Taylor Arnold on January 3, 1936. She graduated from Marion High School and soon after married Robert Lee Martin of Chilhowie, Virginia. Janice was a devoted wife of 57 years, a mother, and worked for over 20 years in the Medical Records Department of Smyth County Community Hospital. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, traveling, and reading. Janice attended Nicks Creek Presbyterian Church her entire life until her move to Texas. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Martin; her daughter, Kelly Martin Calahan; her parents, Joseph Bruce and Virginia Taylor Arnold; two brothers, Joseph Donald Arnold and Randall Gene (Butch) Arnold; and two sisters, Mildred (Mickey) Arnold Parlier and Virginia Ann Arnold.
Janice is survived by one sister, Judy Arnold Dishner of Marion Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Eric and Jennifer Hinson Martin of St. Petersburg, Florida; and one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Martin and Richard Michael (Mike) Haga, Coppell, Texas. Janice had five grandchildren, Jason Eric Martin of Lenexa, Kansas, Quinn Martin Calahan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carleigh Aiden Calahan of Blacksburg, Virginia, Luke Gabriel Calahan of Coppell, Texas, and Nicholas Lee Martin of St Petersburg, Florida.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Bradley's Funeral Home, 938 North Main Street, Marion, VA 24354. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 4, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home with the Reverend bobby Endicott officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janice's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial #23309393, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148. Janice's family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Faith Presbyterian Hospice, 12477 Merit Drive, Dallas, Texas for making her final days and weeks so very comfortable and peaceful.
