Timothy was born in either Buffalo or Niagara Falls, New York. He moved to Canada in 1903-1904 and became a citizen about 1906-1907. In Winnipeg on September 4, 1907 he married Edith Denninck (Demenuk). Edith was a Ruthenian born in Austria in January 1886, and they had six children born in Manitoba: Richard "Harvey', William 'Donald', Annie 'Mabel', Martha, Evelyn and Delia.

On December 12, 1925 while working for the Welland Ship Canal at Ramey's Bend, he hopped off a moving rock train. When he landed he slipped and his left leg went under the moving train where it was severed by the wheels of the train. He was rushed to the Welland Canal emergency hospital in Humberstone. He would die one hour later from loss of blood and shock.

One of the greatest Canadian engineering marvels of the 20th century was the building of the Welland Canal. Over the course of the 21 years of the canal's construction, 137 workers lost their lives. Sadly, 49 year old Timothy was one of them.

To honour the 137 men who died, The Welland Canal Fallen Workers Memorial was unveiled in St. Catharines November 12, 2017. This memorial will serve as a testament to the bravery of these men and ensure that they will never be forgotten. The memorial is located at Lock 3, St. Catharines.
