Angelo Carmen Cannata, 90 years young, was called home by God on Saturday, January 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 18, 1932 to the late John and Anna Cannata in Syracuse, NY. Upon graduation from North High School, he served the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He met his wife, Zita, during a South Pacific musical rehearsal and were engaged on his birthday during a private showing of the movie South Pacific in 1958. They were married in 1959 and spent 63 years together; they had three beautiful children, John, Karen, and Doreen. Angelo worked as a milk man for Netherland Dairy for 17 years followed by 18 years at Chrysler Corporation until his retirement. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church, was a member of the church choir for many years, and a Pompeian Player. Angelo loved to sing. Jim Stanley, Director of Music, was his idol along with Joe Donigan, who he called his brother. Angelo is best known for his roles as Jud Fry in the musical Oklahoma and Harry the Horse in Guys and Dolls amongst other shows. His hobbies included camping, telling jokes, casino games on his tablet, exploring FaceBook, watching his favorite TV and game shows (Gomer Pyle and Family Feud), and especially spending time with his beloved family. In addition to his parents, Angelo is predeceased by his sister, Grace Felicia. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosita E. "Zita" (Andoloro) Cannata; his children, John (Kelly) Cannata, Karen (Phil) Larocca, and Doreen Cannata; his grandchildren, Arianna Cannata (Jacob), Joshua Cannata, Nicholas Cannata, Paul Cannata; his step-grandchildren Keight and Justin; his nephew, John (Denise) Felicia; his niece, Rosanne (Tim) Smith; his great-grandcanines, Hunter and Manny; along with many loving cousins. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse, followed by a mass at 12:15 pm in the church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Lady of Pompei St. Peter Church.
