Bridget P. Hanson, 74, passed away on January 30, 2023, in Osprey, FL. She was born on February 2, 1948, in Croydon, England to Edward and Catherine (Naughton) Maree. Bridget graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago, IL in 1965. She then graduated from Columba Nursing School as an RN. Bridget married her late husband William Hanson in 1971 and they relocated to Sarasota, FL in 1983. She worked at virtually all the hospitals in the area throughout her nursing career, and in many departments, notably spending the last 10 years or so in the ER at Sarasota Memorial. She took early retirement in 2012 to care for her husband, Bill, as he suffered from dementia.

Bridget enjoyed traveling, gardening, genealogy and spending time with her family. She was a talented seamstress, a pet lover, and an independent spirit who was always ready for a DIY challenge. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and adopter of strays.

Bridget is predeceased by her husband William Hanson, parents Edward and Catherine Maree, and siblings Hugh Maree and Mary McCauley. She is survived by her children Ruth Hanson, Claire Stone (Bill and Afton Elliott), Morgan (John III) Hackemer, Bill (Katherine) Hanson, and Ian Hanson (Elena Sabatini), grandchildren Skylar Stone, Isabelle Hackemer, John Hackemer IV, Jack Hanson, and Max Hanson, siblings John Maree and Kate Maree, and many friends and extended family.

A service will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Osprey on March 17th at 10am followed by a celebration at her home on 123 Main St in Osprey.

Send flowers if you like! Bridget loved flowers. But she also loved giving to the less fortunate and would be honored to have a donation in her name to the charity of your choice. If you can't pick one, please consider Resilient Retreat. This is a wonderful organization that provides help to first responders and helping professionals. Bridget looked after so many in her life and could have used a healthy dose of self-care.
