Virgil H. Butler age 71, of Hamilton, Ohio passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 3:32 pm. He was born June 19, 1936 in Kline, Colorado, the son of David and Malinda (Jenkins) Butler. He married Eleanor Cole on April 4, 1959 in Oneida, Kentucky. He attended schools in New Mexico, Colorado and Kentucky. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and played four years on the Varsity Basketball Team. He received his Masters Degree from Xavier University and did post graduate work at Miami and Ohio State University. He taught school in Oneida Baptist High School, Whitewater High School, Fairfield City Schools and the Butler County Joint Vocational School. He retired from the Fairfield School District in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as an Infantry Officer from 1959 until 1969. He was a member of North Baptist Church. He served as a Youth Director, Youth Teacher, Director of Future Planning and Building Committee and served as a Deacon. Virgil was the founding owner of Samson Gym in Hamilton, Ohio. His is survived by his wife Eleanor, one son, Tad and wife Pam of Somerville, Ohio; one daughter, Melinda and her husband Jim Briede of Liberty Twp., Ohio: three grandchildren, Chloe and Zack Butler and Anthony Briede; one brother, Luther Butler of Texas; one sister, Vera Ullom of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Arthur, George, Melvin, Raymond and one sister Francis (Butler) Corbin. Virgil was a devoted educator and enjoyed serving others. He loved his family, grandchildren, serving God and his church. He spent most of his life for these causes. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
