Florence "Elaine" Hopkins, age 91, of Albia, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.
Elaine was born on January 11, 1932, in Wisconsin to Earl and Mary (Riley) Pauley. She grew up attending school in Iowa. On June 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Harold "Fuzz" Hopkins in Onawa, IA. To this union 7 children were born, Kay, Jackie, Robert, Dixie, Robin, Johnny, and Kim. Elaine and Harold shared 66 years of marriage prior to his passing on August 14, 2016.
Elaine worked at a chicken factory in Mapleton, Iowa. She later worked in housekeeping for Indian Hill Inn in Albia and was also a homemaker. She was a past President and lifelong member of the Eagles and was also a past member of the Leisure Lounge in Albia. Elaine enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, and bowling. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends.
Elaine is survived by her children, Kay (Marvin) Wimmer of Mapleton, Iowa, Jackie Kilbane of Des Moines, Robert (Sherry) Hopkins of Swaledale, Dixie (Jim) Jerasa of Lockridge, Robin (Jim) Gailey of Andrews, North Carolina, Johnny Hopkins of Albia and Kim (Roger) Showers of Albia; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Fuzz" Hopkins; her parents, Earl and Mary Pauley; a granddaughter, Janiece Hopkins; a son-in-law, Robert Kilbane; and her siblings, Betty, Deloris, Earl Jr., Elsie, Wilma, Helen, Mary, and 2 brothers in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Elaine's family present to greet family and friends. A private family burial will be held at Oak View Cemetery in Albia at a later date.
An open memorial has been established to the family.
