Spc. Kevin Mowl of Pittsford, New York attended Pittsford schools up to the 11th grade. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy near Philadelphia. He had been with the Army as an infantryman for almost three years and served in Iraq from June 2006 to August 2007. Kevin was wounded in August 2007 when a bomb exploded near his vehicle in Iraq. He has been receiving treatment at the National Naval Medical Center. In November 2007 he was visited by President Bush who gave him a purple heart and presidential medallion. His military and civilian education includes a high school diploma (2003) and the Military Occupational Specialty 11B (Infantryman) Qualification Course (2004). His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Driver's and Mechanic's Badge. Kevin died at the National Naval Medical Center of the wounds he suffered in Baghdad, Iraq on Aug. 2, 2007. He was 22.
