Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Guest, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Lieb Cemetery at Morse. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Lucille Clifton was born Aug. 4, 1912, in Cone to William Thomas and Harriet Jane Hughs. She and her husband, Jake were farmers and ranchers at Morse. In 1963, they moved to Clayton, N.M., where they owned and operated the Clayton Motel until 1978. She moved to Dumas where she enjoyed being with family and became a member of the Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church. Lucille was a member of the Helping Hand Club, which made crafts and had bake sales to help the church. She was a member and officer in the Eagles Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Clifton; two daughters, June Cole and Marie Walton; two brothers, Claude and Olan Hughs; and six sisters, Julia, Mattie, Mollie, Ona, Mable and Marie; a grandson, Dennis Brooks in October 2007; a granddaughter, Carol Reed in October 1999; and a great-granddaughter, Mazie Brooks in August 2007.
Survivors include a daughter, JoLynn Bontke and husband Larry of Dumas; four grandchildren, Jeff Bontke, Jason Bontke and wife R'Nae, John Brooks and James Landon; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1432, Dumas, TX 79029 or Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029.
The family will be at 804 Normandy in Dumas.
