"from the history of Livingston Co., New York, Dansville

Jared Irwin, the second merchant and first postmaster at Dansville, procured the establishment of a post route from Bath early in the present century. He held the office till his death in 1813, and was succeeded in that year by James W. Stout, who was then keeping tavern on the site of the National Bank. He was a tailor by trade. He held the office till his death, which occurred Oct. 7, 1814, at the age of 25. Dr. James Faulkner succeeded to the office in 1814 and held it till 1841. Sad…poor James only held the job for about a year. The man who took over his post became the lawyer for Hannah.
