Elaine Frances Hitzfelder, also known as "Miss Elaine," "Mom," "Grammy," and "Honey," lived a life full of love and fun from February 16, 1945 to January 14, 2023. She was born in a German-speaking home in Fredericksburg, Texas to Chester and Dora Wallendorf. After a few years in the Hill Country and Austin the family moved to San Antonio, where Elaine spent the majority of her life; attending Providence High School, meeting the love of her life, raising children, cultivating a devoted circle of friends, and throwing legendary parties.

One night in January 1961, Elaine attended a Providence dance. Having fun with her friends, she was surprised when a goofy looking guy asked her to dance. They danced the rest of the night and five years later were married on May 28, 1966. Steve and Elaine Hitzfelder were blessed with two children, John David and Anne Rose. The family settled down in the Colonies North area of San Antonio where they joined Saint Matthews Catholic Church and both children graduated from Clark High School. Elaine's love of children led her to work as a pre-school assistant at University United Methodist Day School. The impact she made on the children that went through her classroom was undeniable; "Miss Elaine" was recognized by past students around town for many years.

After 17 years in Colonies North, Steve and Elaine moved to her dream home in Helotes where they lived happily for over 29 years, attending Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Elaine was a talented hostess who loved to entertain. Whether it was a holiday or weekday game night, Elaine filled their home with laughter, loved ones and delicious food!

Travel was another passion of Elaine's, including trips to Alaska, Europe, and Mexico. New Orleans, the Hitzfelders' honeymoon destination, was one of her favorite places and they returned many times. Elaine and Steve also enjoyed their condo in Port Aransas, where she spent happy days walking along the beach, hunting for seashells, and watching the birds and dolphins.

Elaine had an exceptional zest for life and having fun. Her caring nature, generosity, and faith allowed her to create a wide circle of friends. She had a knack for conversation and natural talent for making friends with just about anyone she met! Accompanied by her family and friends, she loved to attend NIOSA, Spurs games, and Wurstfest. Her granddaughters have special memories of doing the chicken dance with Elaine at Wurstfest every year.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Dora Wallendorf. (Survivors omitted for privacy).

Visitation will be at Castle Ridge Mortuary, 10901 W. Loop 1604 N. San Antonio, TX 78254, on January 23rd 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Rosary at 10:30 am followed by funeral mass at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Helotes on January 24th. Private burial in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Her family would like to express our gratitude for Hope Hospice and the Estates at Shavano Park for the care and affection they showed to Elaine, especially Monica, Amie, BJ, Yamile, Noie, Chi, Cheryl, and Vera.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Parkinson's Foundation.
