Musician. A guitarist, he will be remembered as a founding member of the 1960s British rock band "The Yardbirds." At the age of fifteen, along with Keith Relf, Jim McCarty, Chris Dreja and Paul Samwell-Smith, "The Yardbirds" were formed in 1963 and began to perform in nightclubs. However, Topham's parents objected to their son's focus on a music career and he departed, to be replaced by Eric Clapton. Later in the decade, he resumed his musical career with the Blue Horizon label and worked as a sessions musician for singer Anthony "Duster" Bennett and Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green. In 1970, he recorded the solo album "Ascension Heights." After this, he left the music industry and became successful in the art industry. During the 1980s, he returned to music and formed the ensemble "The Top Topham- Jim McCarty Band" with former Yardbirds' drummer Jim McCarty.
