April 13, 1924 - June 26, 2019
Barbara passed away peacefully, surrounded by love in Sidney, BC. She was the beloved wife of the late Abraham Born and was also predeceased by son Steven, daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Murray. She is survived by son James and daughters Victoria (Ken), GayLynn, Carol (Aaron) and Donna, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Barbara emigrated from England in 1927 and grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan. She had to leave school at 14 years old to find employment and worked as a waitress, car jockey, and finally dry cleaning clerk. Her first dry cleaning job ended abruptly when the plant exploded and she was hospitalized with serious injuries, from which she characteristically quickly recovered. Eventually, Barb and Abe settled in Calgary until they retired in their 60s. Relocating to Vernon would be their last big move together where they enjoyed retirement for more than 25 years.
