I have memorial records from my grandfathers funeral that has his name and date of death on them and "McHenry, KY" on them. These are original records that were in his daughters possession (my g grandmother). He was buried at Render cemetery where his last two children, Herbert & Ethel, were buried. His last known place of residence was in Hillside, Muhlenberg county, KY (it's very possible he died there). I have searched for years and years for his death cert under various spellings to no avail. In 1922, his daughter Rosie remarried her 2nd husband, Shelby Russell Sr.. When Leonard passed Rosie and Shelby (and one of his cousins) left the coal fields of KY and took her daughter (by first husband), my grandmother(also oral history from her of this migration), and her widowed mother Matilda, to the coal mines of Franklin Co., IL in a small town called Orient. Rosie & Shelby had a son, Shelby Russell Jr. (1928-2008) in Orient. I had many many conversations with my uncle Shelby (Jr.) as Matilda was his grandmother...he was 15 when she passed. she lived with them and than next to them later on. He told me where she was buried at Tower Heights (This was later confirmed when her obit was found). He also said that Leonard was buried at Render in KY. He told me that he was always told by Matilda that Leonard owned/operated a fish market on a river but he did not know if it was in the Muhlenberg/Ohio Co's or Logan or Barren Co's. I do have some pics left to me, one of Leonard and Matilda in an antique car in the back seat with the top down and he is wearing a cowboy hat and a gray long bushy mustach, looks as though a daughter may be behind the wheel and the house is in background, it says "Hillside" on it. They look pretty old and it's a big old car. I have another with Rosie and her 3 sisters in front of same house, each one has their right arm on the nexts shoulder, from tallest (Rosie) to shortest...also in Hillside...Leonard's son George was born 1889 in Mt. Vernon, Posey Co., IN...is it possible this was the river area/fish market uncle Shelby spoke of?? He was right about everything else he told me...including daughter Cordelia's 1st husband being convicted of murder (Robert Vincent)...

There are NO records at Tower Heights cemetery of Leonard Kirby being buried there, I checked this years ago...there is of Matilda. I do not believe his daughter Cordelia (Kirby) Vincent Manier (I have seen no record of her middle name, Matilda, either, nor has her grandaughter who I use to be in touch with) is either. Other members have a memorial of Leonards father, Thomas Kirby, being buried in Lexington, KY with no proof. And another has his mother buried in TN with no evidence of this. They were in Barren Co., KY for some time into old age and most likely both are buried there. ~Trev~
