MR. ALEX C. MACKENZIE, OF SCOTSTOWN, FORMERLY OF MILAN

Milan, Feb. 3. -- The death of Alex C. Mackenzie, a former resident of this place, occurred on January 8 at the home of his nephew, Mr. John W. Mackenzie, Coleman Hill, Scotstown, where he had been staying off and on since he left his farm in "The Yard," Milan, in 1940.

Mr. Mackenzie was born in March, 1852, the eldest of five children born to Charles and Isabelle Stewart Mackenzie, of Dell, where the greater part of his life was spent. He was the last surviving member of the family. His mother died many years ago, and his father died in 1913, at the age of ninety-three years. Two sisters passed away in girlhood. His brother, Murdo, passed away in Dell in 1918 and his brother, Donald, in Scotstown in 1938. His parents, two sisters and brother, Donald, and his family are all buried in Gisla Cemetery.

Mr. Mackenzie was a gentleman who kept very much to himself, yet he was of a very sympathetic nature and with what he accumulated of this world's wealth by the hard work of his hands he on many occasions shared or gave to help others out. He was the soul of honesty and all he asked of his fellowmen was to be treated likewise.

The funeral service was held at his nephew's home on Sunday, January 10, Rev. J. W. Smith officiating.

Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

His nearest relatives surviving are two nephews, Messrs. John W. and Angus M. Mackenzie, of Scotstown, three great-nieces and four great-nephews, the Misses Doris and Jean Mackenzie, of Scotstown, and Mrs. Colin A. MacIver, of Chicago, Ill., Walter Mackenzie, overseas, Kelton, Jack and Arnold Mackenzie, of Scotstown.
