Mary was "Dowager Queen" at the "Trail to Rail Celebration" in Eugene on August 19-20, 1926, "the occasion of the opening of the Natron Cut-off", which joined Eugene and Klamath Falls." Her son, William C. Elliott, a surveyor and engineer, supposedly surveyed the Natron Cut-off for Southern Pacific.

Mary McKay Elliot, Hillsboro, Ore. April 13, The last of the English sponsored Oregon immigrants who came to this county in '41 is dead. She was a pioneer settler of this state and "queen mother" at the Oregon pioneer association meet in Portland two years ago. Her father, Captain Charles Mckay, was one of the signers of the Champoeg document in 1843, thereby losing financial assistance which he had been receiving from England. He originally migrated from Winnipeg to: save" Oregon for England.
