Algernon married Rosemarie Helen Lucas-Tooth, daughter of Sir Robert Lucas-Tooth and wife Helen. Date of marriage 14th July 1936.

Captain Algernon Robert Augustus Dorrien-Smith, 15th/19th The King's Royal Hussars, attached Armoured Reconnaissance Brigade, who died of wound received at Arras, was the eldest son of Major and Mrs Dorrien-Smith, Tresco Abbey, Isles of Scilly, whose third son Pilot Officer Lionel R. Dorrien-Smith, R.A.F., is reported to be missing, believed killed in action over Arras. Captain Dorrien-Smith was born in 1910 and was gazetted Second Lieutenant in 1930, being promoted Captain in 1938. In 1930 - 31 he saw active service in the North-West Frontier of India.
