He met the love of his life at the local Copemish dances and were married on September 7, 1963. Together, they built their dream home with daughter, Darilynn and son, John. However, their greatest pleasure was their grandchildren Jordan, John, and Teal.
They all enjoyed trips to the beach with ice cream and those special sugar cookies. They also enjoyed his pancakes, eggs, and bacon and they claimed his were the best. He also enjoyed watching boxing, old country music shows, as he called them Hootenanny shows, and polka shows that reminded him of his wife, and watching his grandchildren in sports.
He worked as a carpenter for Tezak Construction for many years and retired from Traverse City Area Schools.
John is survived by his daughter, Darilynn (Tim) VanHorn; son, John Sikorski; grandsons, Jordan (Courtney) VanHorn, John VanHorn; granddaughter, Teal Sikorski; sisters, Edna Rinard, Shirley Witkop, Sandra Witkop, Nancy Bower, Barbara Kleeman; and brother, William Sikorski.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah (Hall) Sikorski; siblings, Betty Remeta, Phyllis Snyder, Myrtle Kuerth, Kathleen Collingwood, Velma Witkop, Rolland Sikorski, Michael Sikorski, Fred Sikorski; and grandson, Jarrod VanHorn.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Tracey Sirek for all the love, care, and support she showed for the later two years. They would also like to thank sister Shirley Witkop and granddaughter Teal for helping with his care. Also, special thank you to Heartland Hospice for your thoughtful care.
A memorial service will be held Friday June 11, 2021 at 11:00AM at Jowett Family Funeral Home, Benzonia, MI.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home.
