Born to Jewish parents, he was educated at Stratford, before enrolling at the London School of Economics. After graduation, he remained in England where he started a collaboration with director Paul Williams which yielded his early efforts "Out of It" (1969) and "The Revolutionary" (1970). He went on to work with Terrance Malick on "Badlands" (1973) in which he served as executive producer and Brian DePalma on "Sisters" (1973) and "Phantom of the Paradise" (1974). Other films include "The Pirates of Penzance" (1983), "Blue Steel" (1988), "Hoffa" (1992), and "The Crow" film series. In 1987, Pressman founded Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation and in 1988, he was honored with a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.
