At an early age, Stacey attended St. James AME church and accepted Christ as her savior. She was an active member of youth ministries and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Most recently, she joined Nia Fellowship Baptist Church in West Orange, where she found spiritual comfort and remained an active member until her passing.
Early in her life, Stacey enrolled in several parochial schools before attending and graduating in the 1980 class of Arts High School in Newark, NJ. After high school, Stacey attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, and then transferred to New Jersey City University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Always an avid learner, she recently earned a master's degree in Education from Rutgers University in 2021.
She started her career as an English teacher in the Newark public school system, later becoming a tech coordinator and retiring after 32 years of service.
In 2007 she became a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc, Alpha Chapter of Jersey City. Stacey served in several leadership positions and remained engaged even after retirement. 1--1er activities and mentoring of college students led to her becoming the Eastern Regional Kappa Omicron Tau (KOT).
Stacey's dedication to the lives of young people continued in her role as a long-serving board member of "David's Shoes," a community nonprofit organization committed to combating youth gun violence and financially assisting young men in continuing their college education.
Stacey was the proud mother of three sons Michael, Jelani, and Isaiah. Though parting from their father, Bilal Abdul-Qawi, in marriage, she maintained a cordial relationship with him, including him at holidays and events.
When Stacey's family grew with the addition of her daughter-in-law, Atara, she became the adoring grandmother of two granddaughters, Lielle and Sarai.
Cherishing her memory and continuing her legacy, Stacey leaves behind her sons Michael (Atara), Jelani, and Isaiah Abdul-Qawi, her two granddaughters Lielle and Sarai, her brother Anthony Wilkins, Uncle Richard Allen (Warleen) Alston, Jr, nieces Andrea, Donna, and Ashley, nephew Anthony Jr., as well as a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
