Joseph "Joe" and Rachel lived in a cabin in Mills County, by what is known as "The Blue Hole", a deep place in Simms Creek, that ran by their farm, which wasn't far from Payne Gap. The cabin was torn down some years ago. They were farmers and had some stock.

Rachel was part Cherokee Indian, her father, William Starr's grandfather being full blood Cherokee. Her Great-Grandfather was Ezekiel Eugene Starr, Treasurer of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma and Senator from Flint District, Oklahoma. Tom Starr was her Uncle, a Cherokee Indian of some fame. (from Wikipedia: Thomas Starr (1813–1890) was a Cherokee in the American West, who was declared an outlaw by his tribe in an internal conflict over treaties with the United States government. He was also involved in running whiskey into Indian Territory and rustling stock. Starr was the grandfather of Henry Starr and father in-law to Belle Starr, through her marriage to Sam Starr.) Outlaws seemed to run in the family, and even her husband, Joe was on the shady side of the law.

Rachel's maternal grandmother was Ester (Hart) Jackson. Rachel's aunt Rachel Jackson married Garrett Newman.

Age at death: 82 years 6 months 6 days. Rachel is buried between her daughters, Ester Isabel (Curtis) Dodson and Amanda C. (Curtis) Partridge.
