An Ardmore barber and an Elkmont, Ala. woman died from electrical shock Wednesday night, February 24, when the car in which they were riding became trapped in fallen power lines on a dirt road just east of Highway 31, in Limestone County, Ala.
Accidently electrocuted were Thomas Bee Pittman, 38, and Miss Sadie Eaves, 32. Pittman, a barber at Willie Jones Barber Shop in Ardmore, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lance Pittman. Miss Eaves was the daughter of Mrs. Mary Sims of Elkmont, Route 3.
High winds had toppled a utility pole bearing the "live" wires some ten minutes before the automobile went under the lines and stopped short of the pole near Holland's Gin between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. The two victims apparently tried to get out of the car on either side and received the high voltage trough their bodies when they stepped onto the ground.
Limestone County Coroner, Charles Sammett, said both could have survived if they had remained in the automobile.
