Jerry was born in Los Angeles and first lived with his father, mother and his brother in the Bellevue Golf Course club house at 11401 S. Western Avenue, Los Angeles, which was located a half a mile west of Western Avenue and just south of Imperial Highway. The course was leased and managed by his father, Cecil Hollingsworth. The golf course closed in the year of 1935. After that the family moved to Cecil's parents house on Lucerne Avenue in Los Angeles, then to the home his father and mother purchased at 10756 Ashton Avenue, Los Angeles, nearby UCLA. Jerry and his brother Vern worked alongside their father. Jerry and his brother Vern attended and graduated University High School in Los Angeles. Staring March 23, 1949, his father, Cecil. and his partner, Gomer Sims started the construction of the Alondra Park Golf Course, Lawndale, California. Jerry along with his brother Vern, worked on a bulldozer called a catskinner at that time. Other courses that Jerry, Vern and his father developed were Meadowlark in Huntington Beach and Singing Hills in San Diego. Jerry graduated UCLA with a BA in Business Administration in 1953. He was commissioned to the US Air Force where he served in the Strategic Air Command. In 1955, Cecil along with his three partners and his sons founded and constructed the 700 acre Singing Hills Ranch property. They constructed the three golf courses at that time. Jerry left the service in 1956 to return to the golf business where he help construct the golf courses including the golf shop, lodge, restaurant, bar and tennis facility. In 1979 Jerry bought out his dad's interest and was in partnership with Steve Horrell. They sold the course in 2001. Jerry remained active in the community and established charitable foundations and raising funds for groups. Jerry received multiple honors for his lifetime of achievements. He was preceded in death in October 2020 by his wife of 61 years, Judy; survived by his three children, J. Scott Hollingsworth (Lisa), Kimberly Hollingsworth Boal (David) and Chris Hollingsworth; seven grandchildren; Kait Boal Schulhof (Tristan), Hayden Boal (Megan), Tristan Boal, Hilary Hollingsworth, Hayley Hollingsworth, Jeremy Hollingsworth (Shannon) and Jessica Hollingsworth and great-grandson Ford Schulhof.
