SHE WAS NOT THE DAUGHTER OF HARMAN BACK.

She married Moses Tapp, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, sometime after 1820. Their marriage record stated that she was born in 1779, in Germany, so she was much younger than Moses. It was said that she died in 1825, which was the same year that Moses died.

There is a woman who claims, without any proof whatsoever, that Mary Boch was the daughter of Harman Back (1708-1789), who lived in Little Fork, Virginia. How could she possibly be a daughter of Harman Back? He would have been 71 years old, when she was born! Plus, it is well-documented that he immigrated from Germany, to America, in 1738. But Mary was born in Germany, in 1779. So, how could she possibly be his daughter? He had left Germany, 41 years BEFORE SHE WAS BORN!

That same woman claims, also without any proof whatsover, that the father of Mary's husband, Vincent Tapp, lived right next door to Harman Back, in Little Fork, Virginia, trying to "prove" that Mary was a daughter of Harman Back. But there is no record that Vincent Tapp, or his father, William Tapp, ever owned land in Litle Fork, or owned land adjoining Harman Back. An extensive search was done, through all of the Northern Neck Land Grants. The Tapp family lived 15 miles west of Little Fork, near the Red Oak Mountain, as proven by land deeds. The claim that she was the daughter of Harman Back is absolutely ridiculous.

Some researchers claim that her parents were Richard Boch and Rebecca Knowles. But this needs further research.
