Thomas Aloysius Barr- Thomas Barr, 62, died on December 26, 2022, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on March 4, 1960, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Jerome A. Barr and Margaret "Peggy" (Velten) Barr.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jerry and Peggy. Thomas is survived by his two children, Madeleine Grace Barr and Paul Joseph Barr; former wife, Jamie Barr, as well as six siblings, Vickie Willis (Dick – deceased), Mike Barr, Phil Barr (Cynthia), Chris Barr, Jim Barr (Angel), and Lisa Moss (Keith), and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas attended elementary and Junior High School, in New Castle, IN. After a family move, he graduated from Greensburg High School, Class of 1978, as a four-sport standout, earning All State honors in football. He was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Barr was a four-year football letterman, helping the Boilers to three Bowl victories. He majored in Construction Management and was a loyal member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

After Purdue, Thomas began his lifelong career in construction management and entrepreneurship. After a brief stint in project management working for several large real estate developers in Indiana and Texas, a new high-tech path opened up in 1988 when Barr contracted with a semiconductor lab in Albuquerque, which prompted him, along with two-partners, to found a ground breaking company Technical Services Inc. (TSI). TSI and two subsequent business ventures (Control Systems Inc./CSI in 1991 & Environmentally Safe Cleaning Alternatives/ESCA in 1996) serviced the semiconductor industry with state-of-the-art testing and manufacturing of environmentally safe parts cleaning. Company offices were established in many locations: Albuquerque, Phoenix, Dallas, Portland, and Dublin, IR. Both CSI and ESCA were eventually acquired by NASDAQ traded companies. Barr also served the business community as part of the Albuquerque Economic Development Council.

Thomas's business success afforded the opportunity for philanthropy, including a major donation to Bosque School in Albuquerque, NM. For a number of years, the Bosque gym floor, "Jerry Barr Court," memorialized his father. Thomas and his family were long-time members of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John, and generously donated their time to many parish programs, especially the food bank. Thomas and his children were avid travelers. Often inviting relatives and friends as guests, they literally explored the world. Madeleine and Paul remember seeing the tip of South America from a ship, and the lower 48 plus Canada and Alaska from the windows of an RV. Thomas was a phenomenal golfer for many years but traded in his clubs for a bicycle more recently. He logged many cycling miles in various locations; rolling along the Rio Grande trail was a special favorite. Barr was a gifted artist who painted primarily for pleasure. He exhibited his acrylic abstracts in Santa Fe and had patrons both at home and abroad. Not known by many, he also contributed to a chapter of Tim Russert's best seller, Wisdom of Our Fathers.

Known to his friends as "T-Barr" or sometimes just "T," Thomas Barr will be missed by his family, and his many lifelong friends—the Greensburg gang, his Purdue teammates, his Phi Gamma Delta fraternity brothers, his Albuquerque Country Club golfing buddies, and scores of business friends and acquaintances. Thomas had a keen mind, tremendous personal energy, a great sense of humor, and an even better sense of fun. If you knew T-Barr, you would never forget him. He was truly larger than life.

While extremely successful in many areas, Thomas also struggled with personal health, finally succumbing to a long-term illness. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial for Thomas on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the El Vado Motel Banquet Room, 2500 Central Ave. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87104. In memory of our beloved Thomas, and to continue his philanthropic vision, please consider a donation to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) research.
