August Torres Alcalá of San Angelo, Tx, passed away on January 5, 2023 at the age of 92.

He was born on 8/28/1930, Feast Day of St. Augustine, his namesake, in Christoval, TX to Feliciano and Trinidad Torres Alcalá.

He was one of the first children to be baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church after the church opened in 1930.

August attended Christoval High School where he played on the 6 man football team and graduated in the class of 1949.

After he attended San Angelo College (ASU) for 1 year, he briefly worked at Figueroa Supermarket and Mercer's Boots. He then started his career in printing at Newsfoto Printing and after 20 years at Newsfoto he embarked on his own. In 1970, he started his own small business, Alcalá Dirt Contracting. As owner August was able to do what he loved doing, working with tractors and dump trucks, the rest of his working years. He retired in the mid 1990's and spent the rest of his years with his wife Audelia.

He was a proud and long-standing member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

August was an avid golfer and a charter member of the Pan American Golf Association.

He loved to tinker! His college educated children would often be amazed at the yard tools he would invent out of weed eaters, edgers and old riding mowers. August was a self-taught musician and loved playing guitar and singing old boleros with uncles, siblings, cousins, and good friends.

He took up woodworking in his later years and took pride in his birdhouses and Créches for his children.

August is the last of his siblings to pass. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Audelia Cedillo Alcalá, parents, Feliciano and Trinidad Torres Alcalá, his sisters, Dora Alcalá Dominguez, Emilia Alcala Del Real, Domitila Alcalá Soto, Clarita Alcalá and his brothers Daniel Alcalá, Yrieno (Lanny) Alcalá, Torivio (Toby) Alcalá, Estevan Alcalá and Anselmo Alcalá. He is also preceded in death by his youngest daughter
Carol Alcalá Samaniego.

August is survived by 6 of his 7 children. From his marriage to Audelia Cedillo Alcalá - August Alcalá, Jr. (Manchaca, TX) and wife Sandy, Donna Goodman (Plano, TX) and the late Carol Alcala Samaniego. From his first marriage to Olga Flores Alcalá - Dick Alcalá (El Paso, TX) and wife Norma, Thomas Alcalá (Dallas, TX) and wife Deborah, Cindy Alcalá Rodriguez (Austin, TX) and Laura Alcalá Lee (Weatherford, TX) and husband Jim. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 8 grandchildren spouses, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild spouse, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers for August Alcalá are his grandsons - Sergio Alcalá, Thomas (TJ) Alcalá, August Alcalá III, Nathan Chevannes, James (Jay) Lee and Michael (MJ) Samaniego Jr..

A rosary for August will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo, Texas. A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, January 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St Mary's Catholic Church, 11 West Avenue N, San Angelo, Texas.

August will be laid to rest in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, San Angelo, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the Alcalá family asks that you make a memorial donation in August's name to Meals for the Elderly in San Angelo, TX.
