ALPHA - Lavern W. Hanson, 89, Alpha, died Monday, March 13, 2017, at home. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Burial will be in the Oneida Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church. He was born April 13, 1927, in Alpha, to Walter and Alice Elizabeth Johnson Hanson. He graduated from Alpha High School and married Jeannette A. Nelson on Aug. 20, 1960, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. She died on Dec. 1, 2016.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in World War II.
Lavern farmed in the Oneida and Rio area until moving to Alpha in the 1960s.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Henry County Farm Bureau. Lavern enjoyed collecting things and photography.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Hanson of Alpha; and nieces and nephews.
His parents; one son, Richard; and two sisters, Marjorie Peterson and Lois Graham, preceded him in death.
