Roberta "Bobbie" French, 88, of Carthage, Mo., passed away at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage. She was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Stella, Mo., to Robert Guy Evans and Louie C. (Bowman) Evans. Bobbie has been a resident of Carthage since 1937. She retired from Big Smith Manufacturing in 1981, after 26 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage. Bobbie enjoyed traveling all the 50 states, bingo, cards with family and friends and at Surviving Spouses, of Carthage. Bobbie married C. Harold "Toy" French Aug. 13, 1939, in Commerce, Okla. He preceded her in death May 1, 1986. She is survived by two daughters, Shirlene Fain and husband, Gene, of Nixa, Mo., and Sandra Lou Hickam and husband, Richard, of Topeka, Kan.; two stepchildren, Harold Edgar "Ed" French and wife, Bobbie, of Guthrie, Okla., and Barbara Ann Squires and husband, Andy, of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Matthew Hickam and wife, Stacey, Elizabeth Hickam Ardell and husband, David, Dr. Amber Fain-Leslie and husband, Stephen and Randy Fain; six stepgrandchildren, David French, Susan Koran, Melissa Emery, Tyler French, Dr. Ron Squires and Lori Wilson; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Bobbie was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Bowman and Virginia Garrison. Graveside services will be at Park Cemetery, Carthage, on Monday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends after the service at the Ulmer Funeral Home Community Room. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
