Army Cpl. Bitton was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He died of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Albert joined the Army in December of 2005 after finishing high school at Ida Crown Jewish Academy. While in school, he got mostly A's, joined the wrestling team, and met his future wife, Melissa. There were two reasons why Albert joined the Army – he saw it as a way to one day become a surgeon and he was a patriot. He became an Army medic and his awards and decorations include National Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert. Albert was proud of his service to this country. Before he headed out to Iraq in October, he visited his former high school in uniform and talked about his plans to return one day and become a doctor. He was scheduled to return home in January 2009.
