To know Johnie was to love her. She had the unique gift of making each person feel welcomed and loved, as if they were truly her favorite. The loss of her generous spirit will be felt keenly by those she loved and cherished, both family and those she chose to call friends.
Johnie was born in Soperton, Ga., to John and Frankie (Phillips) Beasley. She met and married George Jack Duncum, the love of her life, while living in Tampa and completed her senior year at Hillsborough High School while he was deployed. Together they lived and raised their four children in Fernandina, where she resided for the next 52 years.
Johnie lived a full life. She worked in the ESE office of the Nassau County School Board until retiring at the age of 60. Johnie and Jack shared a love of traveling and traveled throughout 49 states, impacting lives wherever they went. They purchased and restored a small home in Sylva, N.C., where they both loved and were loved by the small community of Green's Creek.
Johnie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, George Jay Duncum; brothers, Waldo and Eugene Beasley; and her sister, Zelma Scott. She lost Jack, the love of her life, in 2017.
