P. Lorraine Larson
October 24, 1924 - December 28, 2022
Puyallup, Washington - Pearle Lorraine (Akehurst) Larson, age 98, passed peacefully on December 28, 2022. Lorraine was born in Olympia, Washington on October 24, 1924, the only child of Richard and Alma (O'Neill) Akehurst.
Lorraine's family traces its roots in the state to 1903, first at Vashon Island and later, Hawks Prairie, near Lacey. Growing up at Longmire inside Mt. Rainier National Park, she had a playground that few have experienced. Lorraine attended Ashford Elementary and graduated from Eatonville High School in 1943 and from Pacific Lutheran College with a degree in education in 1947. It was there she met and married her loving husband of 71 years, E. Arthur Larson, Jr. and eventually called Puyallup home for the next 73 years.
As an educator, Lorraine spent 32 years in the primary grades, first at Parkland School (now Franklin Pierce District) and then the remainder in the Puyallup School District - most notably at Stewart and Maplewood Elementary Schools. Lorraine felt the building blocks for life were the ability to read and write and took great pride in ensuring that all of her students had these foundational life skills.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of over 71 years and is survived by her three children; Curtis Larson and Susan Larson of Puyallup, Darold (Beth) Larson of Carmel, Indiana, and three grandchildren; Bryan (Claire) Larson, Hannah (John) Kenny, Carrie Larson and one great granddaughter, Pippi Joy Kenny.
A memorial service will be held on January 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. View Lutheran Church, 122nd Avenue E., Edgewood, Washington 98372. Interment services are at 9:00 a.m., January 23, at Tahoma National Cemetery. The public is welcome! In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Puyallup Schools Foundation to the E. Arthur Larson, Jr. Scholarship for Rogers High School at PO Box 55, Puyallup, WA 98371, or to Mt. View Lutheran Church.
