James H. Letchworth Jr.
June 30, 1942 - September 26, 2022

Mr. James Herbert Letchworth Jr, age 80, passed away Monday evening, September 26, 2022, at his home with much of his family by his side. A native of Greene County, James was born June 30, 1942, the son of James H. Letchworth Sr. and Myrtle Sowers Letchworth. He was a 1960 graduate of the former Hookerton School.

James farmed for many years in Greene County before joining his brother in the acquisition of N.W. Poole Well Company in Knightdale. The well company took he and his wife, Christy, to Zebulon where they built a new home; but it also provided an opportunity for a lasting family enterprise to be established and continued to the next generations. Upon retiring, James and Christy returned to Greene County where he resided until his death. Never one to be idle, even in retirement he continued to be a "jack of all trades" always looking to turn a dollar as well as save a dollar too.

James loved his Lord and Savior, his entire family, and the Duke Blue Devils of which he had been an Iron Duke member for many years. He absolutely loved sports and enjoyed sharing the opportunity to attend games at Cameron Indoor Stadium with each of his grandchildren as well as watching them play and participate in their own sporting events. A member of Hull Road Original Free Will Baptist Church, he actively attended Sunday School and worship services prior to his health declining. James possessed a strong faith and even in his very last days talked with each of his children and grandchildren about their salvation one on one. Following those conversations, James made it known he was ready to see Jesus.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his only daughter, Gina Letchworth Edwards on February 24, 2016.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Christy Thomas Letchworth; sons, Kris Letchworth (Brenda) of Zebulon and Dana Letchworth (Stephanie) of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Kristin L. Warren (Adam) of Riverview, FL, Dustin Letchworth of Zebulon, Amber Oakes (Rebecca Phillips) of Greenville, Ashley Oakes Campbell (James) of Ayden, Landon Letchworth (Hannah), Garrett Letchworth, and Whitlee Letchworth, all of Snow Hill, and Alyssa Letchworth of Zebulon; great-grandchildren, Braxton Letchworth, Maverick Letchworth, Whitley Letchworth, Kendall Warren, Leah Warren, Ben Campbell, Charlotte Campbell and Madison Campbell; sisters, Renee L. Cox (Jack) of Raleigh and Sandy L. Grant (James) of Rocky Mount; brother, Harry Letchworth (Mary Ann) of Zebulon; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM Thursday, September 29th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Percy Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the Dogwood Ranch, PO Box 1995, Ozark MO 65721, or Hull Road OFWB Church, 3984 Hull Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.
