Kermit E. A. Eckert was born on July 23, 1940 to Harry J. W. Eckert and Linda Petermann Eckert in Fredericksburg, Texas. He passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in Fredericksburg at the age of 82.

He was married to Florence Klaehn on January 20, 1962 in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. He was baptized on September 29, 1940 and confirmed on April 11, 1954 in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Kermit is survived by: his wife Florence Klaehn Eckert, one son Brian K. Eckert and wife Mary, daughter-in-law Rhonda Eckert Simpson all of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren and spouses: Chance Eckert and wife Ashleigh of Seminole, Cullen Eckert and wife Melissa of Fredericksburg, Caden Eckert and wife Hope of Seminole, Hailey Hoffmann and husband David of Clear Lake TX, and Gavin Eckert of College Station; also two great grandchildren: Hayes Eckert and Emery Eckert. Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Kenneth Otte of Stonewall, two nieces and spouses: Kim Gibbs and husband Mark, and Kristin Janik and husband Chris, all of Fredericksburg; brother-in-law Roy Klaehn and spouse Debbie, and sisters-in-law: Margaret Klaehn and Opal Klaehn. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, son Daryl Ray Eckert, and sister Isabel Eckert Kikta; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marie and Kermit Ottmers, Raymond Klaehn, Marvin Klaehn, Betty and Henry Hemmeter and Claud Baumbach.

Kermit was raised in the Bear Creek Community. He attended the Bear Creek School, Wrede School and Fredericksburg High School graduating in 1958. He loved farming and ranching which he did part time. He served with the US Army Reserves for six years. He was employed as an inspector at Mooney Aircraft for three years and worked at Opa's Smoked Meats for forty plus years retiring as production manager. He was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and on the Church Council. He loved woodworking and built numerous pieces of furniture for their home as well as for friends and family.

He very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sausage making with his sons and grandchildren. His family was very important to him. He and Florence enjoyed a bit of traveling and spending time with family and friends. Even in spite of his years of struggles with multiple sclerosis, he seldom complained. His optimism surely set a good example for his kids and grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons: Chance Eckert, Cullen Eckert, Caden Eckert, Gavin Eckert, David Hoffmann, Robert Gibbs, Garrison Gibbs, Clay Janik, and honorary pallbearers: Hailey Eckert Hoffmann, Ted Simpson, and his very dear friend and caregiver: Luis Vences.

The family will greet friends 5-7 pm Friday, January 6th, in Fredericksburg Funeral Home and 9-10 am Saturday, January 7th, in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. Funeral services in the church will begin at 10 am. Graveside services will follow in the Eckert Family Cemetery at Bear Creek.

Memorials may be given to Holy Ghost Lutheran Property Fund, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Community Needs Council, or the charity of one's choice.
