Staley, Lucille O.
OREGON/FITCHBURG
Lucille Olava (Westbye) Staley, age 82, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Oregon Manor. She was born on Oct. 15, 1925, in Fitchburg, the daughter of the late George and Josephine (Brown) Westbye. Lucille was an only child, but was raised with eight cousins, the Merrick children, whom Lucille considered her brothers and sisters. Lucille graduated from the Red Brick High School, Oregon, in 1943. She then worked for Farmers Mutual Insurance and the State of Wisconsin, Department of Health. She married Robert L. Staley on June 19, 1948, at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, Oregon. Together they raised three children, but early in their marriage they were foster parents to several children. In October of 1963, Lucille and her husband started Staley Plumbing and Heating Company. Lucille was a true partner in the business, answering the phone, taking care of the books and delivering parts to the job site. She retired at age 74. Lucille was a lifelong member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, Oregon. She is survived by her three children, Patricia (Niles) Amundson of Ontario, Bob (Cindy) of Brooklyn, and Scott (Vicky) of Oregon/Fitchburg; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; newest great-grandson, Dylan Scott Stiklestad, born Jan. 31, 2008, who Lucille awaited with great anticipation; two cousins, Blanche (Merrick) Zellmer and Edna (Merrick) Trolley; brothers-in-law, Owen "Buzz" Hanson of Oregon, Raymond Staley of Tucson, Ariz., and Donald (Helen) Staley of Rochester, Minn. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Staley, on Oct. 30, 1988; her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; and six cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Father Ken Klink presiding. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Private Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Lucille's family would like to thank the staff of Oregon Manor for the wonderful care and compassion she received during the three and a half years she was a resident. Also, thank you to HospiceCare of Fitchburg for their assistance to Lucille and her family.
