John Wesley McCary, son of William Littlepage and Mary Worsham McCary, was enlisted by O. M. Roberts in Shelby County, Texas, on February 19, 1862.

John W. McCary married Julia A. on March 24, 1866, in Shelby County, Texas. Julia was born in Shelby County and lived there all her life. Their children are Horace D., Justin E., Bessie, Mary, Eva J. (m. Beckham), Dan Y., John W. Jr., Nevada, and Boone.
