Mark Cummins, 50, of Newton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Scott Avenue Christian Church, Newton, with Masonic services led by members of Newton Masonic Lodge 216. Burial will be in Gila Cemetery, rural Gila. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Arrangements are under the care of Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton.

Mark was born Jan. 23, 1958, in Effingham, the son of Larry and Norma (Easton) Cummins. He married his high school sweetheart, Kimberly Britton on Aug. 13, 1977, and they were blessed with two daughters. Mark was a truck driver for Sherwin Williams/CTS. He was an avid Illini, Atlanta Braves, Green Bay Packers and Newton Eagles fan. He looked forward to every spring for mushroom hunting. He was a member of Newton Masonic Lodge 216 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He also was a Shriner and member of Ainad Temple. Mark was first and foremost a family man. He loved spending time with them and making them laugh. He will be missed by everyone he touched.

Mark is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Kim Cummins; parents, Larry (Janet) Cummins and Norma (Jesse) Powell; daughters, Susanne (Kyle) Schackmann and Samantha (Dustin) Herdes; brother, Jim (Joyce) Cummins; sister, Kelly (J.R. Billingsly) Cummins; grandmother, Pauline Cummins; and grandchildren, Kayden and Charlotte Schackmann. Many aunts, uncles, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Art Cummins, Marlin and Rose Easton; and his father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Florence Britton. A special thank you to our amazing Carle team of Dr. Luyun, Andre and Melanie.
