A tall and cultured full back who was a pillar of the Chelsea defence for almost a decade. He joined Luton Town FC in Oct 1929 but failed to make the grade and joined Chelsea FC in May 1930 on a free transfer.
At Chelsea George was tutored by his International partner, Tommy Law and remained at Stamford Bridge as a regular first teamer until his retirement from the game in September 1941.
Surprisingly light on his feet for such a big man, he is best remembered for his sliding tackle which dispossessed many a startled opponent.
