Vera A. Karlstrom, 94, of Joplin, Mo., departed this life at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at a local nursing home. Mrs. Karlstrom was born on Nov. 18, 1913, in Galaton, Mo., to the late Henry and Eva (McDow) Holmes. She married Alva L. Karlstrom on June 29, 1947, in Joplin. Throughout her life she was a homemaker. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Community of Christ Church in Joplin, where she greatly enjoyed the fellowship of her brothers and sisters in Christ. Vera had a love for all people. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and four sisters, one of which was her twin. Mrs. Karlstrom is survived by her nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, with Lester Lay officiating. Entombment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 12 noon until 7 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

Vera and Alvie, as we all called him at our beauty shop, were a sweet couple. Alvie was very loving and caring of his wife and although Vera couldn't hear hardly at all, he made sure that she was taken care of.
