Lord. Famous circus proprietor. Born in Newbury. George was the sixth of ten children. At an early age he was employed upon his father's stall, encouraging customers to spend their money. By 1833 the family was travelling around the country going from fair to fair. In 1848 he met and fell in love with Ellen Chapman, the lady lion tamer from Wombwell's circus. They could not afford to marry immediately and George, with his brothers, John and William, toured the country to raise money. George had two daughters: Laurina who married Alexander (Sandy) Coleman and Sarah Harriett who married Arthur Reeve, son of the then Mayor of Margate.
