Bonnie J. Rowell, 86, of Ottumwa died December 20, 2022 at her home. She was born September 22, 1936 in Ottumwa to Victor and Leta Opal Martin Bergmeier. She married James Rowell and they later divorced.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Bonnie retired from J.C. Penney's as a catalog supervisor for over 25 years. She was a long-time member of East End Presbyterian Church. Bonnie worked the Wapello County elections for over 50 years and worked on organizing her class reunions. She loved working on family genealogy, making crafts, decorating hundreds of cakes for others and was an avid Indian Hills Warriors basketball fan where she has been going to their games for 25 years.

Surviving are her children, Nancy (Doug) Canny, Rick Rowell and Tony (Delana) Rowell all of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Crystal (Joe) Trachsel of Amana and Bryan Canny of Ottumwa: three great grandchildren, Rachael, Jacob and Tyler Trachsel; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Rowell; two sisters, Marjorie Bergmeier and Nancy Tucker; and two brothers, Virgil and Kenneth Bergmeier.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 27th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will begin after 12 p.m. Monday, December 26th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later time.
