Our beloved Husband, Father and Papa, Chuck Tiano passed away at home May 1st surrounded by his loving family.
Chuck was born to Peter and Rose Tiano October 6th 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. He lived in Des Moines and graduated from Dowling High School in 1960. Chuck was a baseball player in high school. He was drafted his senior year by the Chicago white sox. He made the trip to Florida for spring training but did not make the cut. He was sent down where he played for the Des Moines Merchants at Sec Taylor Stadium here in Des Moines for two years. Chuck was then drafted by the United States Army. He played baseball all across Europe during that time. He was released just before the Vietnam War.
Chuck met the love of his life Frankie Joan Catizone in 1962. She recalls missing her senior prom to watch Chuck pitch for the Merchants They were married on April 1st 1967,of course April Fools Day. If you have ever meet them you can relate to the joke. They had four boys, Carmino, Vincent, Chuckie and Mario. They lived in Des Moines until 1984, then moved to an acreage where mom wanted and pool and he wanted the country life.
Chuck was a proud father and Papa! He was a family man and loved to be surrounded by them. Chuck spent his time gardening, hunting and walking around his small acreage. He spent many years planting trees around his property hoping that one day the squirrels would find a home among his many walnut trees. Chuck was a gardener and did it every year. Every year friends and family would come to get extra plants that he had nurtured from seed. If Chuck was not in the garden, he was in the kitchen. His spaghetti sauce was to die for. He could make the sauce out of anything. Chuck also loved to make wine. He had a lively grape stock that surrounded his garden.
Chuck spent his childhood and younger years with his brothers and friends hunting around their homes on Francis Ave. He would make homemade sling shots and used pellet guns most of the time. In 1968, Chuck and his brother Pete along with some very close friends -- Clayton and Joe decided to go out west for some bigger game. That hunting trip turned into over 53 years of memories. The trip still continues today.
Chuck is survived by his wife Frankie Tiano; sons Carmino, Vincent, Chuckie, Mario along with his wife Heidi and Grandson Charlie.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Pete and Rose along with brothers Vincent, John, and Pete.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church (720 Orchars Hills Dr, Norwalk, IA). Mass will be held Friday, May 6, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with graveside services to follow at Irish Settlement - St. Patrick's Cemetery where Chuck will be laid to rest. A luncheon will be held after the graveside services back at St. John's for a time to gather and share memories.
Chuck will be missed by everyone that had the privilege to ever spend time with him.
