James COLLIE, a native of Morayshire, Scotland, and a son of James and Barbara (MITCHELL) COLLIE, was born March 10, 1821, and at the age of twenty-six married Elizabeth WATSON. In 1853 he came with his wife to America and settled in Franklinville, moving to his present farm in 1857. Of his eleven children eight are living: Peter, William, James, Jessie, Mary, Elizabeth, Mima, and Louisa.

James most likely was born on the farm at the west bank of Roseisle, Scotland. The farm is located approximately 15 miles from the city of Elgin, Scotland. After his marriage they lived in the area. James and Elizabeth Collie and Tom Watson, a brother of Elizabeth, and four of the children entered United States on a boat named "Statira Morse" from Glasgow, Scotland on June 6, 1853.

They settled in Franklinville New York, read the History of Franklinville published in 1974. They had 11 children four were born in Scotland and the rest in Franklinville New York. The eleven child was a second child named James, as he was buried in Franklinville, New York at 22 months old. Joseph was the illegimate son of James Collie and Elizabeth Farquhar per birth records in Scotland.
