Irvin Hurt Quattlebaum
February 14, 1947 - December 18, 2022

Irvin Hurt Quattlebaum, age 75, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Joel Benjamin Quattlebaum and Julia Coleman Quattlebaum. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Coleman, Ed, Harvey, Joe, Dwight and his sisters, Vivian, Annette, and Sydell. 

Mr. Quattlebaum is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria; son, Damian (Kimberly Spears); brother, Rhamey (Charlotte); sisters, Joyce Lovern, Ramona Wilson, and Maxine McLean; two sisters in law, and countless extended family members; and adopted granddaughter, a special young lady, Bailey Jarnagin Humphrey.

Irvin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 just before graduating from Sylvan High School. After Parris Island, Irv served two tours in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of SSGT. After a brief time with MARTA, he got the job he loved with the City of Atlanta Police Department in 1973. During his time with the APD he served as a beat cop, on the SWAT team, mounted patrol, and retired as a detective in 1992.

Irv and Gloria lived in Jonesboro before moving to Stockbridge in 1994 transferring their membership from First Baptist Jonesboro to Salem Baptist Church in McDonough. At Salem, Irv worked on the kitchen team, with the youth group and with children's ministries. Irv was an active member of Miller's Breakfast Club until his passing. Irv enjoyed working outside, woodworking, and was an avid football fan.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Salem Baptist Church, Hwy 155 North, McDonough, GA with Pastor Rick Statham and Dr. Gary Jarnagin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Those wishing may reassemble for interment at Corinth Christian Church, Hwy 81 South, Loganville, GA.
