J. Irvin Scheetz Sr., 66, husband of Anna B. (Dobry) Scheetz, 15 Union St., died 1 a.m. Sunday following an apparent heart attack in Travel Lodge Motel, Erie.
Born in Pottstown, he was a son of the late Grover C. and Charlotte (Reigner) Scheetz.
Mr. Scheetz was in Erie making reservations to attend the firemen's convention of Pennsylvania at the time of his death.
Retiring three years ago from Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he was employed for 43 years, he was an assistant borough fire chief for 12 years and a former fire Marshal for Montgomery County.
He was a member of the following: Philadelphia Fire Co.; Keystone State Fire Chiefs association and Veteran Association of Reading.
And, Gilbertsville Fire Co., Keystone Fire Co., Boyertown; Ringing Hill Fire Co. and Eagles Home Association.
Surviving with his widow are two sons, James I. Jr., 1 Hanover Drive, Pottstown Route 20 and Thomas G., Pottstown Route 20.
And, three daughters, Dolores, wife of Harry Moore, Temple Road, Pottstown RD 2; Patricia, wife of David Scheetz, 1224 Pine St. and Jane, wife of Carl Burns, Kepler Road, Pottstown Route 18, 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Houck Funeral Home, N. Charlotte and Grace streets, is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for J. Irvin Scheetz Sr., 66, husband of Anna (Dobry) Scheetz, 15 Union St., were Wednesday from Houck Funeral Home, North Charlotte and Grace streets.
The Rev. Francis X. McKee, assistant pastor of St. Aloysius Church officiated, and the rosary was recited by the Rev. James B. McDonald, assistant pastor.
Interment was in St. Aloysius New Cemetery.
Bearers were James Scheetz 3rd, Leonard Scheetz, Jan Schutz, Mark and Harry Moore, Edward Dobry, Joseph Spaare and Nicholas and Vincent Yurick.
