Jerry served a two-year mission in the Alabama-Florida area for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return, he married Sandra Hallam in the Manti Utah Temple, October 10, 1974. They have two children: Brock and Bethany.
Jerry spent 30 years working at Trojan Explosives. After the plant closed, he became his own boss, owning and operating Newitt's Lawn and Maintenance landscaping business for 15 years. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed painting and woodworking, but his true passion was golf. On most Saturdays and Tuesdays you could find him at Gladstan Golf Course. He liked Atlanta Braves baseball, as well as BYU sports. He also enjoyed hunting, until he broke his hip. Additionally, he was a history buff and was particularly interested in World War II. He loved going on family vacations or any outing and activity with them. He enjoyed traveling the world, and especially loved the 15 cruises he went on with his wife, along with their good friends, Curtis and Cathy Burton.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully over the years in various callings, with steadfastness and energy.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra, and his children, Brock J. Newitt, and Bethany Bradley, as well as five grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Clea (Frank) Headman, Cherie (Gary) Roylance, Becky (Mike) Wilson; and by his best friend, Richard Brunson. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Allen, and a sister, Mabel.
The Newitt family would like to say thank you to the Ashford Assisted Living & Memory Care staff, and Valeo Home Health & Hospice, for their kind, loving care for our husband, father, and grandfather.
