Man Kills Woman, Shoots Himself

Boarder Fires After Quarrel With Landlady

Mrs. Hannah Allison, 50, Shot in Head.

Home Tragedy.

Henry Barnett, 60, Shoots Self in Mouth.

Mrs. Hannah Allison, 50, wife of C. J. Allison, street car motorman, was shot in the base of the brain and killed by Henry Barnett, 60, a boarder, who then probably fatally wounded himself, at the Allison home, 429 Elm street, at 9:50 a.m. today. Barnett, who was taken to the City hospital in the Sturgis ambulance, was still living at noon, but Dr. C. H. Bailey, the attending physician, said he would die. The body of Mrs. Allison was taken to the Sturgis funeral parlors.

Five Shots Fired.

The double shooting was the aftermath of a quarrel which developed when Mrs. Allison ordered Barnett to leave, police said. Barnett, police said, fired five shots from a 32 - caliber revolver as Mrs. Allison descended the stairway to answer a telephone call from her daughter, Mrs. Violet Rogers. One shot struck Mrs. Allison, who fell dead at the bottom of the stairway; a second, aimed at the woman, went wild; two others were fired at David Skilling, 48, another boarder, who had called Mrs. Allison, while Barnett sent the fifth shot into his mouth, the bullet coming out at the top of his head. Skilling a mill worker, the only witness to the tragedy, who was uninjured, fled through a rear door and summed police.

Man Ordered to Leave.

Skilling told police that Barnett and a woman companion were ordered to leave the Allison home Sunday night. Barnett, police said, returned for his clothes today, and a quarrel between him and Mrs. Allison followed in an upstairs room. Chief of Police McDermott and Patrolman Elmer Shenkel, who responded to the call, found Mrs. Allison dead and ordered Barnett taken to the hospital. Besides a daughter, Mrs. Allison leaves her husband, who was at work at the time of the tragedy, and a son, Percy Wyant.
