Thomas Leroy Jacobsen, 75, of Hamilton, Montana, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Marcus Daly Hospice in Hamilton, Montana. He was born on February 5, 1932 in Salinas, California to Roy and Lydia Jacobsen.

As a young man, Thomas was active in the Future Farmers of America and helped his father raise sheep and farm sugar beets and beans on their ranch in the Salinas foothills. He attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse.

After graduating from Salinas High School, in Salinas, California, Thomas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was trained to be a military marksman. His tours of duty included service in Japan and Guam.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Thomas married Mary Adele Silva, of Salinas, California on Sept. 22, 1957, and they had five daughters.

Thomas worked for the City of Salinas in the parks department until his retirement in 1988. He relocated to Montana in the fall of 1990. Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He also enjoyed reading and traveling to visit family and friends throughout the United States. In his later years he enjoyed playing in horseshoe tournaments and his greatest wish was to grow a giant pumpkin for the county fair.

Survivors include: his children and their spouses; grandchildren; and many friends and acquaintances.

He was cremated and his ashes interred with his parents at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas, California.
