Nina Vilate Warner Black was born October 20, 1911, in Holden, Utah to Russell and Bertha Johnson Warner. She passed away at Fillmore Community Medical Center in Fillmore, Utah, February 14, 2008. Her father was accidently drowned when she was only three years old and her sister Maline was only one. Their mother raised her girls in Fillmore, Utah. There Nina attended public schools, graduating from Millard High School in 1930. She then attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City in the fall of 1930.

On December 24, 1930 she married Mark Chase Black in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Kanosh, Utah, where they raised their five children. Nina was active in the LDS church, serving in many organizations in teaching and leadership positions. She supported her husband when he served as bishop of the Kanosh Ward. She was also involved in community activities, such as the 4-H program where she taught her daughters and their friends to cook and sew. After her husbands death in 1965, she went to work at the Steven's Department Store in Fillmore, Utah. Throughout her life she enjoyed working in her yard, only hiring someone to mow the lawn after her 90th birthday. She continued to do all kinds of needlework. She is known for her beautiful quilts. Reading was also a passion. These things were curtailed when she was diagnosed with macular degeneration. Her family continued to be her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mark C. Black, parents Russell and Bertha Warner, sister Maline Rappleye, two grandchildren Jim Carpenter and Emily Olson, great granddaughter Pearl Johnson, great-great grandson Spencer Martin, and son-in-law Morgan Young. She is survived by her five children, Russell (Eyvonne) Black of Yuma, AZ and American Fork, UT; Carolyn (Gary) Little of Henderson, NV and Cedar City, UT; Judy Young of Mesa, AZ; Lorin (Martina) Black of Farmington, MN; and Mary (Tom) Olson of San Diego, CA; 18 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
