Son of Frank & Josephine (Meir) Lachnit.
Married to Mary Griffin on 8-21-1907.
He enlisted as a member of Company A, Thirty-ninth United States Volunteers for service in the Spanish-American war. He was with that command for two years in active service in the Philippines, and, although he joined the army as a private, he was promoted to the rank of corporal October 1, 1899, and was mustered out as sergeant on the 4th of March, 1901. He took part in a number of the engagements in the Philippines, including the battle of Colomba, January 1, 1900; Lipa, January 13th; San Diego Hill, January 21st; Majaijay, January 23d; Santa Cruz Bridge and San Diego Hill, March 16th; and again in the engagements at Colomba, August 29th and September 12, 1900. He enlisted on the 27th of September, 1899, and was discharged at San Francisco May 6, 1901, with the creditable record of "honest and faithful."

Funeral services were held Friday morning at St. Francis church for Henry C. Lachnit who died January 26, 1953 of a coronary occlusion.
Mr. Lachnits sudden death occurred at his home at 6183 El Carmen St. Lakewood, California.
Rev. Egbert Huster, O. F. M officiated at the 9:30 a. m. requiem mass. Interment was made in the St. Francis cemetery.
Active pallbearers were J. J Weidner, J. White, P.-L. Kelly Ed Liewer, Wm. Vanderheiden, Conrad Ternus. Honorary pallbearers were Oliver Alderson,, John Steffes, John VanAckeren J. J. Malone, Ernest Schmid and Fred Lohaus.
Spanish-American War veterans Louis Lightner, August Wagner, Charles Brock, James Heaney and Henry Fritz of Columbus, and Joe Korth of Humphrey attended the services.
The American Legion Post No. 80 conducted the military services. Sgt. at Arms was Flo Heimann. Color bearers, were Paul Fuchs and Ervin Nissen; color guards Art Reinhart, Jr and Carroll Kraus.
The Firing Squad was composed of Harry Boesch, George Brockhaus, Melvin Pfeifer, Paul Duesman, Joe Haiar, Jim Berg, Tony Wessel and Paul Senske. Paul Uchtman sounded taps.
Mr. Lachnit was born at Bellwood, Nebraska on April 7, 1878, the son of Frank and Josephine Lachnit. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Mayme Griffin.
Surviving are a son Maurice Lachnit, 2815 Rutgers, Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Paul E. King, (Margaret) 3754 Chestnut, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Urban Liewer (Henrietta) 6183 El Carmen, Lakewood, Calif., two grandsons and one grandaughter
A sister, Mrs. Pete Korth, lives at Cedar Rapids, Nebr. and a brother, Frank Lachnit, at Mitchell, S. D. Maurice and Mrs. King were here for the services. Mrs. Loughman and Mrs. Liewer were unable to attend.
