Reverend Dr. Richard Arlen DeBell, age 86, of Carrollton, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Signature Health Care of Carrollton. He was born June 4, 1936 in Bardstown, Kentucky, the son of Cloud B., Sr. and Hallie (Wilson) DeBell.

Dr. DeBell was a high school graduate of Oneida Baptist Institute in Oneida, Kentucky, held a bachelor's degree from Campbellsville College (now University), Campbellsville, Kentucky, a master's degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and a doctorate from Luther Rice University in 1990.

Dr. DeBell was ordained into the ministry on July 26, 1953 and served as pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville, Rolling Fork Baptist Church in Bullitt County, Kentucky, Bedford Baptist Church in Bedford, Lowell Avenue Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky, Harlan Baptist Church in Harlan, Kentucky, Central Baptist Church in Kingston, Tennessee, and Piner Baptist Church in Morning View, Kentucky, from where he retired.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a former member of Bedford Rotary Club, and enjoyed playing golf and watching UK basketball.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Laurie and Jerry Adkins of Florence, Kentucky, and Richelle and Keith Barding of Kingston, Tennessee; two grandchildren: Thomas Adkins and his wife, Sarah of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Emily Barding Robinson and her husband, Seth of Kingston, Tennessee; and four great grandchildren: Olive and Lucy Adkins, and Morgan and Wyatt Robinson.

Special thanks go to Jim and Janet Smith of Carrollton for their kindness and generosity in recent years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, the former Alma Jean Rogers, to whom he was married on October 13, 1956 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and who passed away on July 23, 2013; his second wife, the former Grace Smith, to whom he was married in 2013 and who passed away on December 3, 2021; eight brothers: Marvin, Cloud, Jr., Shirley, Manlis, Jerry, Beverly, Eugene and Samuel DeBell; one sister: Elsie Anderson; and one grandson, Nicholas Adkins.

The Reverend Gregg Fisher will conduct the funeral services.
